The Principal and Deputy Principal are elected by students and staff for a four year term. Members of the Management at the Academy are the Heads of Academic Affairs and Chief of Staff.

Academic and artistic staff are organised in seven departments according to discipline. The Programme Coordinators are responsible for the educational quality of the study programmes.

Is NMH organised to meet the needs of the future? In 2025, we reviewed our organisational structure with the help of an external evaluator, followed by discussions with the various Departments at NMH about the path forward in 2026. Follow our timeline below.

The strategy addresses what NMH should be, who we exist for, the world we will operate in towards 2035, and much more. During 2023–2025, we evaluated the education, research, artistic development work, and dissemination to understand how the values within music and the arts can be shared with broader parts of society.
