Course for applying for promotion in academic positions

During the spring 2025, NMH will arrange an internal course for employees who want to apply for promotion in academic positions.

The course consists of four seminars, with the following topics:

  • What is required to get a promotion? Review of regulations and guidelines.
  • What does an application look like? Review of formalities and the opportunity to gain insight into actual applications shared by NMH employees who have themselves received promotions.
  • How can my merits and competencies be described in an application? Opportunity for course participants to share their own merits and competencies and get viewpoints on how these can best be presented for application purposes.
  • How is my application assessed? People with experience from application assessment share their knowledge.

Contributors will be both people employed at NMH and external lecturers.

The seminars will take place on the following dates and times:

  • Seminar 1: Monday, January 20, 13:00-16:00
  • Seminar 2: Friday, February 7, 13:00-16:00
  • Seminar 3: Friday, February 28, 13:00-16:00
  • Seminar 4: Wednesday, April 2, 13:00-16:00

Some time for tasks and preparations must be expected between seminars. After the course, it will be possible to apply to receive a mentor, who can support the individual in writing their promotion application.

Application deadline: December 1 2024.

Applications should be sent to the Vice-Principal for Research and Artistic Development Work, Sidsel Karlsen, by email: sidsel.karlsen@nmh.no.

Please briefly outline your plans for promotion and why you wish to participate in the course.

The course is supported by the Norwegian Research Council's Balance+ programme, which focuses on gender balance, diversity, and inclusion in Norwegian academia.

The main target group for the course is women and employees with a minority background who wish to apply for artistic promotion, as these are underrepresented groups in many job categories at NMH. However, as far as this is possible considering the number of participants, the course will be open to all applicants on the academic side.
