NMH Student Awarded Prestigious Prize in Salzburg

Christian Blex, a former master's student in orchestral conducting, has been awarded the Herbert von Karajan Music Prize.

Christian Blex triumphed in the competition during the Award Concert Weekend at the Salzburg Festival in Austria. The Herbert von Karajan Music Prize is one of the most significant accolades in classical music, with over 300 applicants representing 55 countries this year. Blex received the award from an international jury chaired by Manfred Honeck.

Winning the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award is an incredible privilege and a great joy.

Originally from Germany, Christian Blex completed his master's in orchestral conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) this spring, studying under Ole Kristian Ruud. He also participated in the elite programme *Dirigentforum*, developed by Talent Norge and the Savings Bank Foundation. Blex is now the assistant conductor for the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

Blex performed his final master's exam on 25 April with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) in Store Studio. A recording of the concert is available on NRK's website:
