Great concern – Statements supporting Georgia and Serbia

– We want to contribute by sharing our statements to protect democracy and freedom of speech in Georgia and Serbia. Principal Astrid Kvalbein.

The Norwegian Academy of Music’s partnerships with other institutions in higher music and arts education are founded on mutual respect and shared values.

We are concerned about the unrest and totalitarian tendencies affecting our partner institutions in Belgrade, Serbia and Tbilisi, Georgia.

– We stand by our colleagues in both countries in their struggle for democracy, as well as academic and artistic freedom, says principal Astrid Kvalbein.

Through the university alliance IN.TUNE, the Norwegian Academy of Music is closely connected to the University of Arts in Belgrade, and the alliance has published a statement in support of students and colleagues who are protesting in Serbia.

We also share the concern expressed in a statement from AEC regarding human rights violations in Georgia.

We stand by our colleagues in Georgia and Serbia in their struggle for democracy, as well as academic and artistic freedom.

Serbia and Georgia

Lately, with so many disturbing international news, important movements may occur without drawing much attention. The ongoing mass protests in Serbia, lead first and foremost by students, is one example, with the situation in Georgia being another.

– We are concerned, and we want to contribute by sharing our statements to protect democracy and freedom of speech in Georgia and Serbia, concludes principal Astrid Kvalbein.
