Educational Quality
How the Academy of Music works on ensuring and developing the quality of education.
To ensure and develop the quality of its educational activities, the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) conducts continuous monitoring of key areas of education and factors that influence it. This is carried out through NMH's quality system, with the academic staff playing an important role in this work.
1. Recruitment, Admission, and Onboarding
NMH regularly evaluates application numbers, application procedures, and admission tests.
NMH aims to attract the best students and has many applications within all instruments and study programmes represented at the school. Admission to most studies takes place through admission tests. The tests must be relevant and suitable for selecting those best qualified for a survey at NMH.

2. Evaluation of study programmes
NMH assesses the study programmes offered at the institution through programme evaluations, course evaluations, evaluation of the study portfolio, working life, and candidate surveys.

3. Internationalization
Internationalisation work is considered an essential tool for improving the quality of education. NMH collaborates with several central music education institutions. International contact and experience are vital for many students who will operate in an international labour market after completing their education.

4. Study Completion
NMH aims to facilitate students in completing their studies within the standard time frame while achieving strong learning outcomes. Raising awareness among students and staff about the consequences of inadequate study progression is essential. At the same time, it is important to consider that many students will transition into a professional life characterized by a high degree of freelance work, making a gradual transition between studies and working life highly beneficial for building a career. Overviews of students' study progression, as well as evaluations of exams and courses, are crucial for monitoring developments and implementing necessary measures.

5. The competence of the academic staff
Robust academic environments are crucial for the development of educational quality at NMH. Each teacher's engagement with and work within their professional field strengthens research-based teaching, the quality of education, and its reputation. The interaction and diversity within the academic communities form the foundation for high-quality study programs, diversity, and academic innovation. This is crucial for attracting talented students.
The academic environment associated with the various study programmes must continuously meet the requirements in § 1-12, General Requirements for Academic Communities, in the Universities and Colleges Regulations.

6. Student Participation and Learning Environment
NMH regularly evaluates the learning environment through internal and external surveys.
NMH shall utilize academic and pedagogical competence to create good learning environments, develop effective learning and assessment methods, and ensure high learning outcomes. Student participation is essential to achieving this goal. This requires that students feel they have a genuine opportunity to influence their study situation and that they feel heard in their engagement.
