NordART Book release: "Perspectives on Traditioning"

-

Welcome to the presentation of the anthology "Perspectives on Traditioning". The event will featrue readings and musical performances by contributors to the book.

About the book

Perspectives on Traditioning is a collection of essays, articles, and dialogue-based texts reflecting perspectives on folk music practice and artistic research. The term "traditioning" corresponds to the Norwegian word tradering, which involves transmission, embodiment, and deep engagement with traditional material, methods and attitudes. The five texts explore aspects such as inspiration, frameworks, variation, responsibility, virtues, the core of tradition and performance, and the interplay between the personal and the collective.

Contributors

Unni Løvlid reflects on the inspirations and foundations of her traditioning practice, and Håkon Høgemo shares experiences from a rich life as a musician. Gro Marie Svidal discusses frameworks, change processes, and care of the tradition; Sarah-Jane Summers presents a method for letting traditions resonate with one another; and Anne Hytta and Ingfrid Breie Nyhus engage in a dialogue on ethical considerations in traditioning.
