Wolfgang Plagge holds the lecture «Die Weld von Gestern».

David Engmo. Red painting: Damiën Heemskerk

A lecture delving into the music, art and ideas of fin de sie'cle Vienna, inspired by Stefan Zweig's landmark memoir Die Welt von Gestern. The event is part of the Chamber Music Week + the Eterna Festival, and is followed by a chamber music concert with the same topic.

The Eterna Festival

Eterna Music Association is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting western art music as a living artform. Central to our philosophy is the intersection between artistic expressions. Of particular interest is the connection between music, literature, and philosophy, which we seek to examine further through concerts, festivals and lectures.

Eterna is grounded in a vision inspired by the timeless values articulated by Thomas Aquinas—Truth, Goodness, and Beauty—principles that guide our artistic and philanthropic pursuits. From this foundation, Eterna also has a special curiosity for music and schools-of-thought of non-western origin. Combining the rich heritage of the Western civilization, with the worldviews and wisdom of other traditions, creates avenues of infinite exploration.

A movement in the spirit of optimism

In a time when nihilism is rife, Eterna aspires to be a positive force for the good. We want to highlight the sanguinity, beauty and wisdom that music and art can uniquely convey.

Philanthropy

As well as bringing awareness to the importance of culture, Eterna strives to make the world a better place in more than just one way. We have a partnership with the charity organization Caritas, to whom we are donating the proceeds of our activities, for the greater good of humanity. Caritas is wholeheartedly invested in combating poverty, supporting vulnerable families, and providing humanitarian aid in crises worldwide. In this way, Eterna can have a positive impact on many levels – both cultural and artistic, as well as philanthropic. Moreover, we believe that the Eterna initiative will create a sense of meaning for the participants, by contributing to a cause beyond themselves.
