NordART and the Department of Jazz, Improvised Music and Folk Music invite to an introduction of George Russell's book The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization (1952). Helge Lien and Andy Wasserman hold the seminar.
Helge Lien (photo) has been interested in the concept for several years, and has spent his R&D time at the NMH diving deeper into the topic. For two years he has been studying with the Russell expert Wasserman, and together they will give an introduction to The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organisation - a unique work of theory that provides deep insight into the harmonic and melodic universe of music.
George Russel
George Russell (1923-2009) was an American jazz pianist, arranger, composer and music theorist. His theories on tonal gravity and the sonic chromatic scale have had a major impact on jazz musicians, especially in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Russell's concept is a system that is both fundamental and highly advanced. The system is a tool for improvising musicians who want to develop a greater degree of maturity, meaning and harmonic richness in their playing.
